If you are using a UAS, VTOL, eVTOL unmanned and you have a flight control system on the ground, You may have to implement DO-278A, which requires software to be certifiable in accordance with DO-178C.
Establish an Assurance Level
Just like DO-178C with Design Assurance Level (DAL), DO-178A Assurance Level (AL) have six levels of criticality. It’s typical that the Flight Control Ground Station has the same criticality as the aircraft that is monitored and controlled from the ground.
What about the hardware?
Computer hardware has to be shown as validated or tested to ensure correct operation in all circumstances. However, how will this be acheive this?
Hardware may be ‘hot swapped’, but processes are required for operational failures.
